Interesting WordPress Problem

500 Server Error on wp-admin

500 Server Error on wp-admin

So I started a WP site a few days ago to learn more about the environment and see if I could attain some basic skills at being a WP dev.  Something has already broken … but I didn’t do it! :)

It seems that only on the Chrome browser, I cannot enter my admin area.  I end up with a 500 internal server error!

I can enter the admin area in any other browser and even the Chrome incognito browser.  It’s so strange!

I have tried everything from increasing memory / replacing wp-admin and wp-includes / creating a new .htaccess / and disabling themes and plugins … nothing seems to fix the problem.

Why would wp-admin give this error only on the standard Chrome Browser?

Add on:

I have just found a twist in the puzzle! For kicks, I tried to log in using Chrome on my PC instead of my Mac, it seems that I can log in just fine .. So it’s a Chrome issue !? (or an issue linked to my chrome on my mac?) – What could it be? I’ve cleared my cache and this still happens. Suggestions?

It’s so odd, If I figure out the answer, I’ll let everyone know!

  • So as it turns out, it was just a Google Chrome issue. After I found out that I could access the admin screens on Chrome from another computer, it had to be particular to my mac and Chrome there.

It was. I deleted and reinstalled Chrome and it was all back to normal.

As an aside, I find chrome files get corrupt too easily. I usually end up reinstalling on my windows computer at least 4 times a year. This is the first time I’ve had to do it on my Mac. Too bad IMO it’s the best browser out there.

Hope this helps out anyone who has any issues on WordPress or Chrome in general.
